Favourite Rapper Friday: TDAWG

Favourite Rapper Friday : T DAWG

We all love the word for word dip it like it's sauce on salsa? Is that cool or Nah? I tried I'll leave it to the pros. So yeah we're crazy about rap because those who do it have a unique flow that sounds like the new art of story telling, always has been that way. Local & International stars are passionate and producing music we always have on play.

We had a chat with Rapper/Songwriter who plays the guitar T DAWG, he released an album that's definitely on repeat. A review is on the way. Here's how it flowed:

Masulele:Welcome to Mzansi Avenue. Thank you for joining us. How are you?

TDAWG: I'm fine thanks for asking, how are you?

Masulele: I'm alright thanks, so let's get to it. Who is TDAWG? What is he all about?

TDAWG: To be frank, you're asking me to define myself. But, I'd say, T Dawg is more than myself. He, refering to me in third person, is an embodiment of what my ideologies, thoughts, perspectives and creative knowledge all represent. I'd say he's the harbinger of who I want to be, but can't necessarily be because of other aspects of my life.

Masulele: Wow that's like epic, an exolosion..What inspired your love for Music?

TDAWG:I wouldn't necessarily say I love music. I love the idea of music, the fact that melodies can define a mood, words can inscribe emotion, channel thoughts, give perspective, lay down topics that are usually socially awkward, make sense to anyone of any age, be enjoyable and attentive at the same time. That's what I mean by the idea of music.

Masulele: You're like an interesting record, go on and on... write a book. Which genre or genres do you connect with to yourself and audience?

TDAWG: Everything is premeditated. Genres? I don't really want to limit myself to specific genres, but my main fallback is HipHop/rap, meaning more lyrical content. With sub-genres like Trap, Funk, Lofi, RnB and Rock.

Masulele: That's an interesting blend, I haven't listened to lofi, I'll give it an ear...

What's that one song by another artist you wished was yours and why?

TDAWG: A song by another artist that I wish was mine?... Voices In My Head by Ocean Wisdom. That song speaks for itself, give it a listen and you'll for sure need to reason to know why I chose that one song out of the thousands that I know.

Masulele: I'll check it out for sure, thanks for sharing the Good Music.
Speaking of other artists who are your musical influences?

TDAWG: There's really a ton, but I'll make the list short and decisive. They'll be, in no particular order, Eminem; Logic; J.Cole; Ocean Wisdom; T Dawg; Audio Push; Drake; Hopsin; Token and Kendrick Lamar.

Masulele: They're all amazing artists.
I see you mentioned yourself, that's epic, I salute.

What do think about the evolution of rap?

TDAWG: Evolution? More like Devolution. Rap in the 70's revolved around sensless things, and we're going back into that, but now, it's just becoming ever stupider. But then, a craft is a craft, so I'd say I respect wherever it goes.

Masulele:Wow, so you as an artist do you want to change that? Redirect?

TDAWG: Nope. I don't want to waste my time trying to rebuild something that can't be rebuilt by me. The only thing that can redirect it, is consumer preference. And trust me, it will change, cause people mature and styles grow old. But messages don't.

Masulele: I see,A little birdie told us you play the guitar, self taught? Tell us more about that...

TDAWG:Yes, I play a little guitar, and I am self taught. I bought my first guitar 6 years ago and it was broken within 3 months, so I stopped. I began playing again early this year.

Masulele: Well I hope you're not the American Boy Little Mix sang about who plays the guitar and breaks hearts....You Released an album a few months ago, is it a concept album? What's the feel?

TDAWG:Yes, that album is basically a concept album, as the title suggests, it deals with content often viewed as matured. I go through the experiences I've had growing up, and how they led me to where I am. I talk about my current mind state on "Peace of Mind" in which the title itself is a play on words "piece of my mind" "peace within my mind". I touch on various topics on various songs, but the end goal, is to just share what I see to myself as PG R18 SLNV's real meaning

Masulele: I must say the album is a strong offering, what's your favourite record on it?

TDAWG: My favourite is GOAT, the soon to be released bonus track to the album, but from the album itself, I'd say it's Peace Of Mind.

Masulele: We cannot wait to hear GOAT. Earlier on you mentioned a premeditated process, describe your studio sessions..

TDAWG:My studio sessions? Mostly short-lived moments of pure creativity. I walk in with an idea, sit there for a few minutes drawing it up, and walk out with a product ready for the market.

Masulele: Wow and your music sounds so good. Ear candy at its best.

Your dream collaborations?

TDAWG: Don't really have any dream collaborations, as long as it makes sense and it sounds good, I'll go with it.

Masulele: Wow, I see. 5 interesting facts about you?

TDAWG: There's nothing interesting really, but 5 facts about me, are that. I'm awfully quiet, though I chose to converse for the comfort of those around me. I dislike interacting with people, but we don't always get what we wish for. I'm very analytical, I always notice detail and stuff. I'm very good at a lot of things. I'm very interested in learning.

Masulele: Coffee or Tea?

TDAWG : Coffee

Masulele: Movies or Series?

TDAWG : Series

Kim Kardashian or Rihanna?

TDAWG: Rihanna

Masulele: The Monster or Love The Way You Lie?

TDAWG: Love The Way You Lie Pt. 2

Masulele: Summer or Winter?

TDAWG: Winter

Masulele: So what's next for TDAWG?

TDAWG: A project titled Unchained.

Masulele: What's it about?

TDAWG: It's about nothing and everything, but mostly pretty similar to NF's Perception Album.

Masulele: Oh alright, we look forward to it.
Thank you and all the best.

TDAWG: Thank you for having me.

Masulele: No, thank you.
