#PsychUp Avenue - Hallucinogens
Hallucinogens
As stated before, hallucinogens are a group of drugs that alter a person's awareness of their surroundings, as well as their own thoughts and feelings. Just like the name, these drugs can cause hallucinations which may make unrealistic things seem very real. These drugs can also cause the user to feel out of control disconnected from their body and the environment.
LSD or Lysergic Acid is an example of hallucinogen drugs and is known to be one of the most powerful mind-altering drugs which cause hallucinations. It was first developed 1938 with the aim to treat respiratory depression, a type of breathing disorder which is characterized by slow and ineffective breathing. It was only in the 1960 where this drug was used for recreational purposes or to get "high". People that use LSD can cause a person to see vivid bright colors, experience blurred visions and also see distorted shapes and faces. A person using LSD may also experience shaking, lightheadedness and changes in their mood. It has officially been made illegal due to its side-effects, but you can still get your hands on it if you really want it...
Ever heard that mushrooms can get you high? Well, that's probably true, but it's not all mushrooms. Psilocybin is a chemical that is found in certain types of mushrooms that are typically found in Mexico, South America and some parts of the United States, but they have been rumored that they are now being grown all over the world due to their side effects. Just like LSD, Psilocybin or magic mushrooms have their own side effects; these include hunger, altered mood, lack of muscle control and increased body temperature. other effects may include feeling nausea, confusion, dry mouth, panic, excessive sweating, paranoia and increased blood pressure.
Just like most drugs, an overdose of hallucinogens may lead to death. There are a lot more other drugs that fall into this category, but for the sake of this, we'll stop right here.
