The Optometry Student has the eye for Fashion & her view is admired by supporters and brands that know that her platform is not only bright but bold. N.R Mnisi had a chat with us about Balance, Bullying & More. Here's what went down with the Bliss Beauty.

Welcome to Mzansi Avenue. Thank You For Joining Us. How are you? 

N.R Mnisi: I'm Fine thanks and you?

MCK!NG: We're good thanks, so...

Who is N.R Mnisi? What is she all about?

N.R Mnisi: I’m a 21 year old content creator and promoter from Bushbuckridge, Acornhoek. I’m also a student at the University of Johannesburg, studying Optometry. Besides being a student I’m a business woman , I have a business of promoting and I also sell fashion related stuff (mainly accessories).

MCK!NG: Wow that's impressive. When did the business start?  How did it come about?

N. R Mnisi: The business started early 2021, I love fashion, my content shows that. So, every now and then I’d post pictures of me in my favorite outfit and I’d get a lot of messages people asking me where I purchased a certain accessory, then I thought I’d do something out of it,that’s when I started with the business. 

MCK!NG: That's awesome. And at which point did brands started contacting you, requesting to work with you?

N.R Mnisi: By far, I’ve only worked with local brands , they started approaching me in early 2021.

MCK!NG: And how was your reaction to that?

N.R Mnisi: I felt honored,my focus was not really working with brands then, before they approached me- I knew working with brands was something I needed in the long run but I never thought it would be so soon so they somehow came as an eye opener to start making my research on working with brands - so I’ll forever be grateful for them.

MCK!NG: And as student, a business woman and also a daughter, sibling and stuff like that, how do you balance it all? Is there ever any pressure?

N.R Mnisi: Not really, family has always been here so I don’t think it’s a factor that would ever at some point bring any sort of pressure- as for being a student and businesswoman it all comes with sacrifices, this is where I see pressure most of the time but I work around it. I make time for my studies and time for business- I mainly focus on the business during weekends and studies throughout the week.

MCK!NG: That's a good way to balance out things. So being an influencer, influencing trends, fashion and inspiration what does that kind of power mean to you?

N.R Mnisi: Honestly,I do not refer to myself as an influencer, at least not now- I believe I’m still new in this industry and still have a long way to go- being an influencer is not something that is self proclaimed- it is a title that is given to you by a group of people who find influence in you so I’d choose not to call myself that so far.

MCK!NG: Well honestly from what I've heard people call you an influencer "Acornhoek's First Influencer" you're actually a big deal to many who've seen your steps of growth to success, you know. But I respect that.

What kind of brand would you like to work with? And why?

N.R Mnisi: I love fashion, modern fashion so I would love to work with brands that their main focus is fashion.

MCK!NG: I see. What advice would you give to anyone who to be in your shoes? 

N.R Mnisi: Watch how you use social media, there’s a lot of negativity on social media but it also has positivity depending on how you use it and where you choose to invest your energy so always choose what will be beneficial for you.

MCK!NG: Definitely true.

Who are the people that inspire you? Why those people? 

N.R Mnisi: Thabee_happy is one person who inspires me, the fact that she’s doing exactly what I wish to do is the reason I look up to her, she’s an influencer from South Africa and I’ve realized her main focus is fashion and it is something I’d love to do.

MCK!NG: What's the most challenging experience of your life and how did you overcome it? What did you learn from it?

N.R Mnisi: One thing I’ve struggled with has to be bullying, as far as I can remember I’ve been bullied my entire life and it took me time to love myself and the way I am, I’m still learning to love myself. I wouldn’t say I overcame it completely, it is quite a journey, I’m still learning to work around all the negativity . One thing I’ve learnt from being  bullied is that sometimes people project their insecurities on you and you should learn to never take what they say about you, always be content with how you are and what you have and stop taking opinions from people.

MCK!NG: Wow I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm glad you're taking back control with each day.
