Welcome to Mzansi Avenue
Thank You for Joining Us
How are you?
So who is M-Meezy, how would you properly introduce him?
M-Meezy: I'm Good thanks and you? M-Meezy is a Rapper/Songwriter and an Excutive producer born Mandla Ndlovu in a small town called Acornhoek,Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.
McKing: I'm Good too and thank you. What Kickstarted your love for music? And when did you take the call? Take us through the process?
M-Meezy: What kickstarted the love?
My dad Solomon Ndlovu who's a legendary music distributor, he used to take me everywhere he was selling his music from the age 6. He distributed music for bigger names such as Andy Masiye,Dwaro Rocks,Eric Mbazima the Living Rock and Mummsy Ndlovu to mention a few, that's where the love for music began because some of these huge artists used to come to our place to rehearse with him.
When did I take the call?
I took the call in primary while I was still doing grade 4, one night I tried to write a song and it came out nicely in a form of afro-pop and I was excited. The following morning an arts and culture teacher a introduced a new topic as for orals where everyone of us had to sing the song of our choices for scores, that's where I discovered the connection I have for music but back (then) it wasn't easy to get a studio for recordings, I managed to record my first song when I was in the 11th grade which was also received well by people.
McKing: Wow, such an amazing story, the music bug bit you didn't it? What is your artistic value and your integrity?
M-Meezy: I believe in telling stories that resonates with myself and from my point of view. Although I have influences here and there in my music, the sound is very original. It is not easy to compare Gandaganda rap to any other song by another artist.
McKing: You're not sticking in but standing out which is important when establishing yourself in any creative space. We're in a timeline of trendy songs and challenges on social media do you think it ever takes away the true essence of music or?
M-Meezy: According to me it doesn't take away the essence of music but it helps more artists to grow independently in the industry these days you don't have to go or publish your music via label which previously exploited our musicians, most of our music legends died penniless 'cause labels robbed them, example: Mahlathin and the guy who portrayed velaphi.
McKing: You're right about that. Independence has opened up to more opportunities and free reign.
