Editor's Taste: The Party Starters
Happy Friday & I Aaron your Editor in Chief have a nice selection for you, I'm a huge fan of good music and I can't resist some dance bops that definitely make me move and singalong, a bond at first listen...I think of it as an experience where we get to have our musical moments, someone's song fits our narrative and they burst into song while we dance or cry, laugh, montage our way into expression. How cool is that?
Max George - Till I Met You.

So this week I have Till I Met You by Max George it's one of his slept on records, it's such an Ibiza moment of his, a heartfelt self introspective dance ballad where a new lover brings a change and inspires true intentions over a club infused beat that has this appeal I can't put my play to, it's more of this high and night life vibe, big city, bright lights and just a techno funky dance record. It's highly active with such a frenzy flow.
The Saturdays - Promise Me

Opens with Vanessa declaring "I'll be partying" this buzzing banger builds it's way to a dancefloor do it alone kind of setup as a lover can't seem to commit to plans, feeling like you're all alone in the Relationship, sonically it's more of leaving to just have a good time and get over the many let downs, it's such a fun record, I appreciate the dubstep elements, Una on the bridge gives some raspy vocals that are crisp and connect. The girls sound fed up yet ready for a good time, taken from their 3rd studio album On Your Radar.
Girls Aloud - Call The Shots

One of my favourite songs, though the lyrics are about the end of a relationship I appreciate it's elegant instrumentation, dreamy and lush, strong vocals and Nicola's middle 8 steals the show, with Nadine giving a hard hitting performance during the final chorus, which enhances the song, no ad-libs, it's more grounded, contained but it still bursts into something special you feel the tension, a change in direction that the relationship is over and getting over it. It's truly a standout track that has one of the best productions very electric.
Every Now & Then

This song is epic dance pop, dark yet has this almost futuristic tone, it stays emotional yet has a big chorus that is flashy, it's a surging record, bursting into something bigger after starting off innocent and just another dance break up record but switches things up to give you that Girls Aloud unexpected take to music, they sound so in control and this song deserved to be huge, it's more impactful than Something New which got the single treatment. It's vintage GA, this can hang in the room with Biology. The Show & The Promise.
Metal Heart by Sugababes

A twisting, straight into space and stomping beat, Mutya opens up with a heartfelt complaint as they eventually land on the chorus cohesive and over something different with this song which sounds like a Timbaland type of arrangement. It gives early 2000s pop with a more edgy take, reminiscent of My Love by Justin Timberlake. Siobhan's "You're heartless" adlib is falsetto fine, so gorgeous. It almost touches on Hi Hop, Pop & R&B. The girls bring in some soul.
Dawn Richard - In Your Eyes

Official Artwork. |
Dawn Richard is inventive and experimental with music she never settles for trends but keeps her artistry evolving and growing, breaking boundaries, vocal and sonic exploration her discography is proof that she is always keeping things interesting. In Your Eyes is like a trance record, very hypnotic as it has celebratory tones as Dawn calls for awareness, asking for directions and guidance, it has this classic tale to it, showcasing that it's part of a well thought out album, Golden Heart which had mediaeval as a theme and this song sounds like it's from that timeline yet has a position of play in today's library of music. The beat has a progressive pace like scientific research and development, it turns into something spectacular.
