Taken from her tenth studio album Chemistry (deluxe), goodbye is a hard hitting ballad with one of the most soundtrack cinema score ever! it sounds like the climax of the film before the end credits as the main character wraps up a romance and moves on to something better, a power move of overcoming victimhood. It feels like she's been observant and is well aware of what her former lover has been doing to her, she's done.
The song was inspired by her divorce as the song's opening verse is like a fierce confrontation, you hear these vulnerable yet soaring vocals as if she's on fire and blazes the past leaving no trace.
The outro/refrain is a highlight, the harmonies are just catchy and give a proper send off riding off into the sunset with a smile, the story reaching an end where she's won.
You were always tellin' me how I made you a better manPromises mean nothing when you don't know how to listen.
It's one of those real life moments in music where you relate to this story and empowers you to walk away from toxic relationships and settings. Sometimes we don't know if someone is going through the same thing until we hear it on the radio, read a book, a film adaptation etc. we applaud the vocal powerhouse for this heart bearing record which is truly an Epic WOW!
Incredible vocals, a range of emotions that boil down to a departure.
