Avenue Music: Leigh-Anne's Resurgence! Better than Brilliant.
Avenue Music: Leigh-Anne Pinnock a Review into Her Music (I Just Need Something That's Real)
Highly established as a member of Little Mix, historic awards, acclaimed vocals and insane chemistry, they had the formula and were able to navigate into the industry that was somehow failing them? With a 10 year run and global smash hits such as Shout Out to My Ex, Wings & Sweet Melody these girls solidified themselves and withstood as most groups didn't have longevity.
Now on hiatus they all took time to craft and create a sound suitable for their artistry, Leigh-Anne kicked off the journey with fans expecting some R&B driven records of course, her signing to the label thrilled everyone who had high hopes. Don't Say Love was released as her debut single and it's quite daring and bold she didn't play it safe. Leigh-Anne went for a mature yet unforgettable sound, the song is a missed opportunity we're surprised it didn't receive a Brit and the lack of TV performances.
It felt refreshing and inventive, groovy synths and techno waves that gave fashion forward orchestra, in a sea shell we'd say she was styled to fit and slay. It's a contained song that delivers pop.
The follow-up single, My Love which features Nigerian Star Aria Starr is has that African Carribean taste to it, a gigantic beat that offers a dance worthy jingle and anthemic chant-along chorus it was a winning formula. It was charged up for success and didn't receive much promotion and build
Leigh-Anne had done headlining shows and a live performance for Vevo but she needed to be on TV more, outside the UK moving around building her audience.
Her EP is a strong solid offering with the lead Stealing Love which has a breezy, unconventional take sonically that has her stepping into different territory. Anticipate is a fun song, which helps the EP keep momentum. We have I'll Still Be Here which gives modern R&B empowerment touches. Nature is one of her best records showing she moved away from the 10 year successful Little Mix sound to stand on her own and sing her way with a much more personalized style.
Now she's finally independent and has partnered with Virgin Music Records for a distribution deal, donning a new logo and comeback single that samples an interesting song that you'd never thought the songstress would ever go for, yes she has tapped into dancehall, Jamaican infused sounds but this is quite the direction for Leigh-Anne. We're excited for all that she'll be doing as its been a longtime coming.
Recently she released reintroductory records with Been A Minute & Burning Up. This new era is authentic and she isn't chasing the charts but is making music that truly breaks the tale of the industry paced routine, Leigh-Anne wants to be more original and have a sense of identity that won't be blurred by big machine money driven strategies that are soulless.
Been A Minute has a really two tone take, it's very grounded yet carries a lot of energy that is hot enough to get you moving to the rhythm. Been A Minute (Visual)
Burning Up is short, sweet and spicy it's really an exciting record, dark and intimate, her vocal range also brings some pleasant surprises. She doesn't keep the same groove but elevates and interacts with growth and success that she's not just some singer that'll fade into the shelves of an ever growing library of music.
We can't wait to listen to her debut studio album and hope the hits keep coming.
Burning Up is available on all streaming platforms. Do check it out.
