Artist Of The Month: Zyle's Masterclass

Artist Of The Month: Zyle!

Happy Holidays. We have Zyle best known for breaking boundaries and challenging narratives, setting lasting impressions with his more than just music presence, dominating and owning every platform He poses on. He's definitely not a one hit wonder as he has been on the rise since stepping into the scene. We had such an insightful conversation with this bright mind and controversial Artist who is modern and real.

Welcome to Mzansi Avenue. Thank You for Joining Us
How are you?

Zyle: Hey guys, Thank you for having me I'm doing quite great actually can't complain at all, hope you guys are good. 🙏🏿

So Zyle is a musician, new age entrepreneur & all round humanitarian.

McKing: Hello to you too, we're blessed thanks. That's amazing. It's great to finally have this moment of discussion.
How would you best describe your music?

Zyle: We can describe Zyle's music as educational, I make more educational music than feel good music because my understanding of a musician is somebody who is there to convey messages to the people.

McKing: That's profound. You're one of the best artists of this generation, massively underrated. How do you keep pushing and maintain your ever growing fanbase?

Zyle: Being blessed with this VOICE means I have to use it for nothing but Good, to mold and build.

The only way to keep pushing and maintaining my fan base, I guess is to just keep pushing as you say, I learn new things each and everyday in music so the constant learning keeps me motivated, knowing that I  still have a chance to be better than what I was yesterday is what keeps me going.

McKing: Absolutely Outstanding! What's the one thing people get wrong about you?

Zyle: The one thing I think people get wrong about me is that because of my strong opiniated voice they think I'm a bad guy and I don't care about people. I get it all the time where I'll meet someone today and they'll confess to me that they've been wanting to know me for a long time, but because I'm so outspoken and more special on things that have to do with society they think I'm not an easy person to can have a civil conversation with, but I love the fact that in the end they realize that they were wrong about me all along if I do give them that chance to get to know me personally.

McKing: Sometimes being outspoken can be misinterpreted and one ends up villainized. In your case there's a happy ending.
Things you wish younger you never did and why?

Zyle: I do not regret anything I've done as a youngling, each and every experience has its own lessons attached to it and I wouldn't be the person I am today without those experiences.

McKing: So true. Without being molded we'd just be empty of any worthwhile experience. Would you ever write kiss off anthems? The songs where you talk about a bad relationship and cash off on it?

Zyle: I'd write a kiss off anthem not only for the sole purpose of cashing off on it but because I put everything that happens in my life in my music, if it happens I have a bad experience in a relationship I'll definitely write about it.

McKing: As you should. Someone may relate as music is after all, expressive. What's your career highlight so far as an artist on the rise?

Zyle: I do not have any career highlight at all 'cause I am never satisfied of anything, I always want to do the next big thing so nothing is ever big enough to say NOW THIS IS IT as soon as I tick off one goal I'm on to the next.

McKing: That's actually powerful. It makes you to never settle and think you're done, accomplished when there's so much more to do.
Your daily motivation?

Zyle: Daily motivation is waking up knowing I'm still not sitting down smoking blunts with the likes of Chris Brown & Burna Boy. That keeps me motivated and maybe by the time I get to that level I'll have other things to keep me motivated.

McKing: You're in a library of music, who are you listening to and why?

Zyle: In my Library of music I'll listen to each and every artist who has reached GLOBAL STARDOM, I learn from them because that is who I want to be so I'll listen to your Burna Boy, Davido, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Drake, Wizkid, Rema, Lil Wayne, 2pac, Michael Jackson and all the other Greats.

McKing: Those are some amazing, well established artists. What's your take on today's reception and delivery on music? Are we losing more artists who sing about realism for the fun and fantasy?

I mean it's not everywhere someone goes hard on a meaningful song unless it's over a thumbing dance beat.

Zyle: I personally think that we are not losing artists who sing about realism we have alot of them out there, we are just in time now where people don't really want to listen to real sh!t because it's a fast world and everyone is always on the move having fun so they listen to more FEEL GOOD MUSIC.
Real artists are there it's only up to them to raise the bar on their music so they fight their way back to the top.

McKing: Fair and true. I'm in Love is one of your best records, it does have the mainstream appeal to it. How did that song come about?

Zyle: I'm in Love is a song that I did with the Tsonga Prince Henny C s/o to big bro, a song that talks about LOVE because that's where I was at that moment and as we know Henny C, he's a family guy so for him it was easier to relate to that topic, I chose that GLOBAL SOUND on purpose so that when we get to that moment of being Global Stars that particular song will still compliment the position I'll be in when people start going back to search for my old stuff.

McKing: A genius move right there. How do you deal with controversy and use it to educate people on matters of conflict?

Zyle: I feed off controversy for some odd reason, when people disagree on something then we know there's room for educating each other, so I am not one to avoid controversy, I actually initiate it most of the time and whatever topic it is, I'll make sure I keep my stance on the matter at hand, those who pay attention will learn those who are ignorant wont.

McKing: Using a platform that usually starts destructive fires that often lead to cancel culture and shifting the dynamic to healthier spaces is epic! Kudos to you. Who are your musical influences?

Zyle: Lil Wayne, 2pac, Chris Brown, Kodak Black, Tory Lanez, Burna Boy, Brenda Fassie, Lucky Dube, Benny Mayengane, General Muzka, Emtee, Sjava

McKing: Now that's taste! Gordon Ramsay would be proud. Patience EP is truly golden. When can we expect a collective project from you as you've been in your droplet era, releasing singles back to back....

Zyle: I've been working on an album for a while now, the reason it's taking time is because I keep on getting different inspirations everyday, I've changed the way it sounds twice now but I trust the sound I have now so anytime, a miracle can happen and I drop my first official album, I know I owe my supporters a complete project 10x better than PATIENCE they'll just have to be a little bit PATIENT (chuckles)

McKing: It'll definitely be worth the wait. Your work is earcandy!
What are we yet to know about you?

Zyle: I am the greatest all round artist to ever exist on this planet that's what I think people are yet to know about me because they like boxing me in as just being a RAPPER and I'm more than that.

McKing: Embracing your worth, we love that. Your least favourite song on your discography and why?

Zyle: I have a special connection with all my songs because all songs remind me of a certain thing I once did or seen so I don't have a least favorite I love all my songs the same I can say.

McKing: That's different and different is good. Makes you stand out. The best song you've written so far?

Zyle: The best song I've ever written has to be Ungati Jeketeli.
I was in a different bag on that one, that's a song that when I listen to there's nothing missing on it, it was executed with perfection.

McKing: That's a classic! It created a buzz online. Unforgettable. Who would you like to work with?

Zyle: Right now if I could choose who to work with, I'd go with Burna Boy.

McKing: One of the hottest acts in the music scene right now. Take us through the recording process, how do you bond with the music and get to create impactful music?

Zyle: My recording process uhm I don't have any tricks on how to bond with the music because I believe I am the Music so I never have to try hard it just flows because it was meant to be.

On the part of making impactful music is, I just always remember to always talk about real life experiences, my music is like Food or Water; it's necessary, if you avoid it today you'll definitely need it tomorrow (chuckles)

McKing: Spoken like a wiseman. You went on a headlining tour, inspiring people that it's possible, in 2019 if I'm correct, around town and it was such a big bold move. How did that kick off?

Zyle: The Tour happened in 2019 yes, no funds no nothing just a dream and I approached a few business owners who own venues where I'd like to host and they didn't give me no troubles they allowed me to do my thing, Bushbuckridge News Paper also helped with an Article & the people were very supportive so I will definitely do it again in the future bigger and better.

McKing: Game changer in music, you deserve the nod. The people you enjoy working with?

Zyle: I really enjoy working with my producers: SubzerBeatz & Candisonic....We have a very good relationship so it's always easier working with them.

McKing: Shout out to them and to more good music. What do you say to yourself daily? Any reminders of good advice to self?

Zyle: What i say to myself doesnt change "I AM THE GREATEST ARTIST TO EVER EXIST ON THIS PLANET" that's my daily affirmation until it manifests.

Reminders of good advice to self is to take care of my mental wellbeing, always to know not to allow people into my world to a point where it can be easier for them to hurt me with words or actions, so I always protect self by drawing a line for people.

McKing: Powerful and effective. Are you a bar for bar or telling a story without having to rhyme kind of Rapper?

Zyle: I'm good with both bar 4 bar & story telling but I like story telling more.

McKing: There's definitely more to you than the music gives. What's the most flirtatious text you've ever sent?

Zyle: The most flirtatious text I've sent, I can't recall 😂We say alot sometimes so you'll never know how it lands on the other side

McKing: You're a songwriter so we're sure you've got catchy lines for centuries. The one genre you wanna blend with your style of music? Why?

Zyle: I want to blend my style of music with all genres that exist, I want to be an artist who has an album on all genres and can perform for anyone anywhere on this planet.

McKing: Looking forward to your discography. Do you believe in publicity stunts or organic growth and do either have relevance of sustenance?

Zyle: I believe in publicity stunts & organic growth at once.

They can both be sustained, yes there's always a stunt one can come up with if they are smart, organic growth is also good but you do need some kind of stunts sometimes to raise more awareness.

McKing: Makes a lot of sense. An eye for business. Any juicy links in your DMS?

Zyle: Issa lotta juicy links in my DMs 😂

McKing: And your lips are sealed huh? You know where your romantic bread is buttered...Who is your support system?

Zyle:My support system has to be my Mom & Grandma.

McKing: That's so sweet. Shout out to them. 5 things you can't go a day without?

Zyle: Cant go a day without:

1. Training

2. Writing "If I'm not writing it means I'm rehearsing what I've already written"

Well im sure the likes "Food, bathing, water" we don't count coz its compulsory

Everything else i can go without, so its actually 2 things that I can't go a day without.

McKing: For a very broad person you can come across as a minimalist yet you're a go Big or go home. A song by another artist you wish you wrote and recorded? Why?

Zyle: There's not a song by any artist that I wish I wrote to be honest.

McKing: That's fair. What would you never do?

Zyle: I will never ever speak about myself from a place of lack.

McKing: Yes! The power of the tongue. Your sound isn't controlled by the mainstream market, why is that?
You don't want to attract labels but lovers of music?

Zyle: My sound is just me reporting what is REAL, I do want to attract record labels but I want them to be attracted to this version of me who only reports whats REAL.

McKing: No replicas just the original. The way it should be. 5 interesting facts about you?

Zyle: 5 interesting facts about me

1. I don't judge
2. I don't hate
3. I don't discriminate
4. I do not look down on other people
5. I respect everyone

McKing: Very good qualities. Ever given someone a lap dance?

Zyle: I've never given anyone a lapdance unfortunately.

McKing: The girlies are probably excited waiting to experience it first. Your celebrity crush?

Zyle: The best advice I've ever received was TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.
