Album Appreciation: Out Of Control by Girls Aloud
Album Appreciation: Out Of Control by Girls Aloud!
Released in 2008 by Polydor/Fascination Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Xenomania who produced timeless hits such as Biology, The Show and Sound of the underground. Out of Control is the 5th and final studio album by Girls Aloud. Step into futuristic, the 60s and 70s inspired moments that compel you to an unforgettable listen.
It has a very classical, mature yet fun take with some fascinating production elements on songs such as Love is the Key which the girls cowrote, it's such a jingle, about a relationship with barely anything in common, opposites attract after all. With the most unforgettable Pre-Chorus that'll definitely set your heart on fire. "If you love somebody don't ask why, cupid mystifies"
Love is Pain is such a gorgeous harmonic ballad, it feels futuristic yet elegant, it deserved the single treatment with a spectacular chorus "first I saw the letter heard your secret code telling you walk away" it's definitely pop-tastic as Cheryl closes it in frustration repeatedly singing "Love is pain oh oh" the writing on this one is impeccable, moments where translation of emotional turmoil is beautifully written.
Live In The Country is campy and we love it! A very groovy get on your feet feel good record. The late Sarah Harding shines as they prefer the more organic lifestyle than city centre stage. Girls Aloud are always good at experimenting with their sound, they never played it safe, they will always have a universally acclaimed signature tone.
Untouchable is not my favourite but it's such a beautiful ballad on the futuristic side, very dreamy, sexy and vulnerable. I do enjoy the outro by Nadine it's such a special moment. The fans love this song and please don't take me to court!
It takes you on an adventure as it goes on a high (chorus) then low with the verses.
Rolling Back The Rivers in Time my absolute favourite. It's summer nostalgia, romantic and so soothing. With a catchy chorus, outstanding verses from start to finish the song is a work of brilliance. Cheryl's solo is a cooling kiss filled with sass and longing.
Fix Me Up - naughtiest song ever! It's also a bit humorous with its lyrical content, doesn't take itself seriously. It's more of a fun record with some nice vocals. It's a nice surprise which balances the other records. From the elegance to dancefloor to sexy and marriage ready.
Out of Control is one of their best albums. The Promise was also a bold choice as a lead single, it's such a gorgeous record with some nice feminine touches, it struts with so much passion and cheer you can't help but love it. The Loving Kind is more of a glammed up romanticized version of Call The Shots which comforts you like a glittering lullaby, Nicola takes the cake on this one.
