Avenue Music: Should've Been Hits
Avenue Music: Should've Been Hits
This week we have the songs that shined and deserved proper recognition as we feel they're underrated.
1. Demi Lovato - Wildfire
Taken from her 5th studio album Confident, Wildfire is a dark and burning song with a chilling arrangement while laid-back it builds up a furious chorus and the final chorus is a thing of beauty as Demi hits her high notes sounding like a Phoenix unleashing...it's a song that should've been a single and deserved a stunning visual.
2. Tove Lo Ft. Kylie Minogue - Really Don't Like You
An unexpected collaboration which works beautifully it gives you a groove of pop perfection, catchy chorus and it's a girl on girl hate type of situation as an ex has moved with a gorgeous new lover. It's a very good song and highly underrated, it deserved more recognition and plays.
3. Dawn Richard - Frequency
From Golden Heart. Frequency is bliss, the writing is spot on, clearer and creative craft. Dawn sings "Turn me on for sonic love, I want you to hear the way you make me feel when you turn me on" her vocal delivery is also impressive, switching up from a fast paced to cooing with excellency for her majesty's love. Should've Been a massive radio hit. The "On, On" adlibs are one of my favorite moments alongside the prechorus and chorus.
4. Skylar Grey - Shame On You
Skylar is one of thee best creatives and this a song that is so heart warming, feel good and sets a memorable vibe to it. It's brilliantly catchy with its flow and character, as it talks about someone who's so good looking they make everything else look like nothing. From her EP Angel With Tattoos.
5. Backstreet Boys - Don't Go Breaking My Heart
Another missed opportunity on this stomping heartfelt ballad, straight to your heart and into the dancefloor. The song is a strong offering and even though it doesn't come close to classics like Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Millennium It sure is a fiery hit.
6. Kaskade Ft. Tessa Comrie - Never Sleep Alone
I'll admit it cuts deep with its message and also gives you euphoria and a burst of bass, it's a beautiful track that should've been HUGE. I would love a remix with Richard Bedford who frequently collaborates with Above & Beyond or John Legend.
7. Zyle - Ungati Jeketeli
He's a star on the rise and we feel this should've been his breakout hit. It's one ballad that'll have you in tears. Real, Raw, Deep and a story so relatable about absent fathers. This is a special record right here.
8. Tholwana - Don't Let Me Go
She has never released a bad song and Don't Let Me Go is so fresh sounding, vibey and a standout. She sounds like she had fun making fun this record. It's got that pop reggae touch. Reminiscent of Love Is Wicked by Brick N' Lace. Infectious energy it carries, no way you'll hear this on the radio and not load it on your playlist.
9. Selena Gomez - Souvenir
It's such an elegant youthful and in love song. Builds up perfectly with a stunning prechorus and the chorus gives you chills alright, so soothing and therapeutic with its tone. This song should've been a single and not a deluxe track. It carries the right moments of mooding with each part and you get to enjoy this lush song. It'll take you on an unforgettable journey as Selena sings "Calling your name the only language I can speak" on rattling drumming clicking song.
10. Kylie Minogue Ft. John Savoretti - Music's Too Sad Without You
This song is from Kylie's 12th studio album Golden. Which was more country and not the usual dancefloor bangers we're used to. The song is a delicate and heart melting ballad, lyrically strong and the instrumentation carries a compliment to the occasion. Jack & Minogue sound like reminiscing lovers. The chorus isn't more chilled with Minogue's harmonies sounding like haunting memories. This song deserves its flowers for being such a good ballad. Romantic, Longing & Sad.
11. Smile Ft. Mariechan & Uhuru - Last Summer
It's not just called Last Summer but it's summer ready. It's an under the song jingle, Instagram ready, a sing-along and full of good vibes and worth making memories to. Radio friendly and is a 5/5, released in 2015. This song was a missed out on opportunity for many music lovers around the world. Mariechan, Smile & Uhuru serve some amazing energy on this sizzling track talk about flirtatious and catchy.
12. Locnville (Ft. Radio & Weasel) - Done
Done gives you reggae vibes, it's pop infused, dance ready and aggressive on beat with a rollercoaster rush touch. The chorus is so good and catchy. "You're like a tattoo the way you get under my skin, the thing about you is too much sun for rain" on the tropical kissed song which is like a kiss off anthem.
Ok this is injustice. How is such a good song not blown over? I mean it's super good.
13. Daye Jack - Bully Bully
Taken from his mixtape No Data Daye Jack provides a Hip Hop essential. It's such an underrated song. The dojo elements and his flows on the song are superb. One of the best songs I've heard. 5/5. Not only is it such a good vibe but it packs a punch of a fresh serve with a little motivation and edge. Man this guy is talented and this should've been a global anthem.
14. Prime Circle - Pretty Like The Sun
Prime Circle always serves some impressive ballads, they know how to hit the right tone. Pretty Like The Sun is an exceptional ballad which intensifies and carries such an emotionally thrilling energy from start to finish. It's unforgettable in tone and you'll find yourself singing along to the song, it may be sad but it's another outstanding ballad that deserved more.
15. Dinah Jane - Pass Me Bye
It's sensual, strong, romantic and deep in arousal, a pleasant surprise from the vocal powerhouse, as said before in a review this song gives us Toni Braxton vibes but Dinah owns it and it's a beautiful production with rich elements sonically and her voice blends in to the occasion taken from her well received EP Dinah Jane 1. It has that mature touch to it and we believe it deserved more attention and should've been a single.
16. Miley Cyrus - Slide Away
I feel like this song, is paid dust. Miley gave us something outstanding here. One chilling ballad that sounds like something from the 80s, it feels like a lover's sendoff after the breakup. The conclusion and confrontation. Her vocals are on a high packed with emotion and style.
17. Tinashe - Salt
From her sophomore album; Joyride.
Salt is a seasoned ballad which makes you feel like you're in a jazz setting and you need a drink to accompany the good music that is this song. She sings with so much soul and character that you can't help but wish it had a visual. The bridge is a highlight showing off her vocals and emotions. Stunning ballad indeed.
18. Citizen Queen - Y
It's got that Sunday soulfulness to it. Powerful and strong harmonies, led by Hannah the heart wrenching ballad pours you lemonade, it's bittersweet as they address a lover's leaving without a reason. Standing out song from start to finish. Everyone gets to shine and it hurts the right notes and emotions.
.
19. Candice Pillay - Stay Awake
From her debut album; The Mood Kill
Stay Awake is a popping bouncy Pop/Hip Hop ballad that fires up the tone. Sexy and romantic is something you don't wanna snooze to, stay awake because this song is a not to miss. The guitar and clicks man!! This is a playlist essential.

Quinton serves a social cry of gender based violence on a groovy beat that sets a strong chill and vibe while his vocal and lyrical offering content packs a punch. Impressive takes and notes. Definitely deserved more mainstream attention.
