Album Appreciation: Inspired By True Events: Tori Kelly

Album Appreciation: Inspired By True Events, Tori Kelly

We're back with The AA. This time we're appreciating an album by Tori Kelly best known for her light and sizzling vocals that are always delightful, strong and authentic on delivery. She knows how to utilize her voice on the right moments of a song, the overall Performance will have you more than Impressed.

I personally got introduced to her through Should've Been Us taken from her debut studio album: Unbreakable Smile the song served as a single. It's upbeat and hard on beat, highly catchy you won't help but have it on repeat.

Inspired By True Events is her third studio album which feels so personal in so many ways. It touches on her faith, parents, her childhood, relationships and her own personal issues. Especially on Actress a song she wrote and solely produced now that's amazing, it's string driven over a guitar it's moody and feels a bit stripped yet the lyrics and vocals pack a punch you'd tear up, relate because we all have those moments where we can lie to our loved ones and say "I'm fine" while we're not. She says "It's easier to be an actress" on the heartfelt personal ballad, pouring out her feelings and frustrations.

Until I Think Of You sounds like that sad song we connect to. Until it bursts into a moment of Praise, Acknowledgement, Worship Of God, knowing who he is and trusting in him. It's a great assurance. The song has a major plotwist that is empowering but the title is a spoiler alert, right?

Coffee is my personal favorite. First time I heard it I was amazed. The stacked vocals serving as the intro. The poetic nod in the lyrics...Tori is definitely at her best, the song is so romantic, longing, beautiful and has a nice build especially the second prechorus, it's a blissful experience "Even your coffee is closer than Me" she sings on the record.

Songs like The Lie have a classical arrangement that sounds relevant and fits in perfectly. For a minute there you'd wanna hear Aretha Franklin on the second verse and the chorus. (May her soul rest in peace) it's very fun as the instrumentation is more groovy and vibey. Tori easily sings her way to a 10/10.

The album also has some dark moments from songs like "Your Words" about a loved one you've lost. You can't listen to it without shedding a tear. Tori carries the sad yet hopeful song while noting the difference their presence would bring but a see you on the other side, is just enough even though it's hard to say goodbye.

All The Songs on the album have their moments of shine. They play a significant purpose and Tori put them well together with her team in just making a project that is so relatable, fresh, fun, soothing, heart wrenching...these events all come together and tell a story sung so well, we have to appreciate it.

It's a 10/10 from Us.
