Local Song Of The Weekend: DJ Life Ft. Monique Burger - Stranger's Language.
We caught up with DJ Life and Monique asked them about the song which is dancefloor ready and with its infections "La la la la la la la" refrain which will have you singing along. The song carries a catchy yet meaningful energy that can have you longing for love or just a good time. Monique's vocals are hauntingly beautiful and you can't help but want to hear more and more of her runs and riffs as if she's singing a spell of outpouring emotions with nerves and curiosity.
The song is available on all streaming platforms. Do check it out.
MCK!NG: What was it like working with DJ Life?
Monique: So what was it like working with DJ Life? It was a very...how can I put this? It was a very free experience because what happened was...um we never really worked with each other in person, so he sent me the track and I did all my parts of the song, all by myself, on my own. I then sent back the recording back to him. [We used Rumbis Studio] and then he did his edits I don't know the technical terminology (chuckles), he did his producing and that's how the song was born so we never worked together in person which was kind of interesting, I actually liked it because that gave me the freedom to work in my own time.
MCK!NG: What's your favorite moment on the song?
Monique: My favorite moment on the song? It's like... I'm not sure hey, I actually really like the lyric; I wash the nerves down my throat with pinotage , I sang it differently, I was like (Sings) the pronunciation was different and I was wondering; I wonder if people are gonna get it? The penoltage obviously refers to wine so basically singing about liquid courage. Also it's not the type of stuff I usually write about, it's very light, um which is new but interesting, yeah! I hope that helps.
MCK!NG: What inspired the single? What is it about?
DJ Life: Uhm the lyrics or the message, it's all about Monique's work, she just came up with the idea of stranger and how we usually communicate with strangers at the groove. Then she executed this beautiful song.
MCK!NG: As a record producer and DJ what do you plan to accomplish with your music?
DJ Life: With music, I just want the whole world to hear and love my music nothing more, I don't take this music journey as a career.
MCK!NG: When you heard her vocals the first time, what kind of feelings or impression did you have?
DJ Life: Was definitely overwhelmed by her voice,I was impressed 👌 and I told myself that I would love to work with her again in the future.
MCK!NG: What was it like working with her?
DJ Life: I can't say much because technology helped us a lot, due to COVID-19 and the travelling restrictions put in place, we made a plan to record the single virtually.
MCK!NG: Which other artists would you like to collaborate with?
DJ Life: Locally wanna work with every artist around my hood, as long as we do something nice🙌 and national; it's definitely Prince Kaybee, Afro Brothers, TNS, Shimza, Peekay Mzee, Kamza Heavypoint, Legoody and 2point 1 Music.
MCK!NG: : Can we expect an EP? Album or another song for this Festive Summer?
DJ Life: At the moment Nope, I'm taking one step at a time...maybe next year.
Do enjoy the music.
