Entertainment Avenue: Fate The Winx Saga Season 1 Recap
When the world discovered the Winx girls are coming to life everyone went crazy as they've always wanted a live action of the series. Netflix is the platform and Brian Young Serves as the show runner.
A different spin was added to the live action with many controversial changes that led to fans protesting online. With the casting of Elisha Applebaum a white woman portraying an Asian character to Elliott Salt who was seen as Flora's replacement.
A lot of fans were on the fence but decided to give the show a chance and while many warmed up to it and gave it positive reviews some felt it didn't have the Winx factor, it didn't meet the required expectations with the fashion and darker tones but honestly Winx Club Season 1 -4 were really dark and very mature. They had so much depth. With 6 episodes the show started off on a slow pace and started picking up. Conflict among friends, love triangles (Stella. Sky & Bloom) and power struggles. Spies and hidden secrets. Fate Season offered a whole new tone on the long running franchise which was met with mixed reviews.
We saw male fairies and female specialists. A tease of transformation magic. Inclusivity and a diverse cast. A Beatrix who fans feel needs Darcy & Icy. They want Cloud Tower and more of the mysterious and spine chilling blood witches.
Season 1 gave us the burned ones who are these dark and dangerous creatures with a highly infectious attack, they're after Bloom who comes into the other world after struggling to control her powers and has a hard time fitting in, proving to be stubborn and reckless. With the help of her friends she gets closer to uncovering the truth only to release enemies who've been locked up and unlock a new trouble on her way back with her new found friends.
We also saw the pressures of being a princess and how Stella had to be ruthless instead of kind. They're trying to turn the students into war machines, an army that shouldn't care about eliminating the enemy. The final scene showed the girls happily approaching alfea only to walk into a hostile takeover that they never saw coming. What does the future hold?
Overall the first season is enjoyable if you put everything else aside. The tension, onscreen performances, the build up and soundtrack offer something to binge on. It was one of thee most watched shows on the platform.
