Star Of The Month: Danny Katlego Chiloane

Star Of The Month: Danny Katlego Chiloane

It's been awhile since we had a cover star and our first Star of 2023 is Danny Katlego Chiloane who is stepping into success unapologetic and true to self while noting his Faith in God. As we talk about Life Lessons. Relationships, A Few Game Of This Or That & His Participation on the annual Mr. Mpumalanga event.

Welcome to Mzansi Avenue. Thank You For Joining Us.
Who is Danny Katlego Chiloane and what does he do?

Danny: Danny is a 25 year old young man, who was born and bred in Acornhoek, Boelang. He is a firm believer of education…holds an LLB degree and (Is) due to graduate for his LLM (Master of Laws) in Labour. Both degrees obtained from the university of Limpopo. He is currently working as a Candidate Attorney at a Law Firm based in Midrand. He has recently established a programme called “The Insighters” which he kick-started to invest in the future of the boy child. His programme has a main aim of supporting and inspiring the boy child by sharing valuable information and skills, which will enable them to become respectable, accountable and responsible members of the society. He is currently a semi-finalist for Mr Mpumalanga 2023.

(Please note that Danny had to pull out of the competition due to work commitments as of March 28th 2023)

McKing; What got you into modeling? How did it all start?

Danny: Modelling? Well I think it is something that I have always wanted to do. I love fashion and I am a pageant fan, local, national and international ones. But also have been getting influence from people who believe I can do well in the modelling industry, because of my body size, my looks (so they say) and I just though I should give it a try and here I am.

McKing: Good for you and congratulations on your Mr. Mpumalanga participation.
5 things you can't go a day without?

Danny: 5 things I cannot go a day without:

1. Music, I love Gospel Music. The first I thing I do when i wake up is put on my favourite playlist. When I work, I work while playing music, in the shower, when I wash, clean or cook.

2. Prayer, this goes together with music. When I play music (Gospel) i always find myself praying. I have learnt to dwell in the presence of the Lord, it is where i find peace…eternal peace.

3. Phone, I have recently learnt that I cannot go a day without my phone. Obviously I cannot play music without it…socials, socials, socials. I need to know what is happening out there.

4. My partner, I cannot go a day without knowing if my partner is okay. I won’t go into details. (Laughs)

5. Lastly, food. Food is life😂 I love fruits. I must at least eat one fruit. But yeah, I can’t go a day without eating something nice, you know?

McKing: Totally!! What is your guilty pleasure?

Danny: My guilty pleasure, I’d say it is Gospel music😂 a lot of people may not know but i am worshipper, i love singing. One thing that keeps me sane is singing gospel music. Singing along some of my favourite worship or praise songs is the best feeling ever.

McKing: Praise is a powerful act, that's amazing. Which song on your playlist is on repeat and why?

Danny: Song on Repeat.? Thathi’ndawo Yakho, Spirit Of Praise Vol 8. The album was released during a time where I felt I had been neglecting God and focusing on other things. It is on repeat because i need God to take over everything happening in my life. He is my Greatest help.

McKing: AMEN. What's one memorable thing about varsity you can't forget and what have you learned as a student?

Danny: I was awarded Top student in the 2017 Academic year. I was doing my first year in 2017. I was honoured to have been a top student in a class of more than 400 students from different countries and provinces in SA. Although it was never something I was not used to, i just didn’t expect it to happen at varsity.
And one thing I learnt as a student is discipline. Living in an environment of so much freedom can be very distrusting and students are most likely to live anyhow since there is no one to report to. I’ve learned to become responsible and to prioritise the important from the least and unnecessary things.

McKing: Wow that's so amazing, kudos to you, you've done so well!!!
You graduated and started working, tell us more about that... congratulations by the way...

Danny: It it by far one of my greatest achievements. Thank you so much. Yeah, so I graduated in 2021. But I was still hungry for more. I have always wanted to study beyond just a degree. I enrolled for my Master of Laws. I wanted to do something in Human rights, but ended up enrolling for labour law.
Then having completed my first year of my Masters with a distinction, i started sending out applications to secure a position as a Candidate Attorney (Articles of Clerkship). I work for a LawFirm based in Midrand, Gauteng. it has been an  overwhelming journey, yet a great experience. I look forward to being admitted as an attorney.

McKing: The journey is never easy but worth it, you're inspiring. Who is your celebrity crush?

Danny: My celebrity crush😂 I’d say it is Nkululeko Tshirumbula, played as Gundo on Muvhango and Vuyo on Generations -the legacy.

McKing: I remember him, it's been awhile, Yup he is a hottie. What's your daily motivation?

Danny: My family. I love my family so much and i owe them so much. My Grandmother who has preached education from a very young age, my aunt, Naledi Mashile, who has always been my pillar of strength and my siblings. I want to make sure they don’t lack. But most importantly I find strength and motivation from God. His word and unfailing love keeps me going.

McKing: That's so sweet, oh my gosh...What are some of the challenges you've come across personally and professionally. How did you overcome them?

Danny: You know, life takes us through different stages which are necessary for personal growth. We get to adapt to different environments with people of different personalities. One challenge I have experienced is having to express myself and get to be myself. But I have always overcome this but learning to accept myself and remain true to myself. One biggest mistake we make in life is seeking validation from other people. I have never made this kind of a mistake.

McKing: For real, that's real talk right there, proud of you. What are some of the projects you're currently involved in?

Danny: I was involved in a number of projects and programmes back in varsity, but I had to cut some of them due to my commitment to my job. Some of them include Social Care Committee, where we would try to assist students who were in need, either food, clothes…name them. Most importantly, i was part of Centre for Academic Excellence, which I was initially a mentor for School of Law, and was later appointed as an Supplemental Instruction Leader, where I was entrusted with a role of assisting students with traditionally difficult modules. Also assumed executive position in Enactus Student Programme for Entrepreneurship. But like I said, I am currently running my programme; The Insighters, which aims to support and inspire the boy child.

McKing: You're on a roll, genuine. It's great work that you've been involved in.  You're participating in the annual Mr. Mpumalanga crowning. What can you say about the progression and to your fellow contestants?

Danny: Mr Mpumalanga…Well, this one was also on my to do list for the year 2023 and i am so glad it is actually happening. It is quite an overwhelming journey. But I am learning so much. In as much it is a competition, I am getting to learn from my fellow finalists. To my fellow contestants, I want them to use this journey to learn more about themselves. They should open more room for personal growth. They should stay selfless and continue making an impact in the lives of young men.

McKing: Loud & Clear. If you were a breakfast, what would you be? Why?

Danny: If I was a breakfast I think I would be creamed coffee. I bring out the best energy in most people I have met. I find you down and weary and give you a wake up slap. My contagious energy will keep you in a good mood for the whole day. That is what a great coffee does.

McKing: Ooh now that's good. Single and ready to mingle or taken?

Danny: I am taken and so happy. I have been in my first ever relationship since 2016. I love my partner so so much. Shout out to him.

McKing: Shout out to the Gentleman. Congratulations on your new found love. What's one memorable moment of faith you'd like to share?

Danny: You know when I applied for the job here in Midrand, I prayed and said: Lord? This one is mine. I remember when i had my interview, i had not really prepared much compared to the other interviews I had (at the time). I had so much faith about it and kept declaring it, 2 months later, I received a call and got the job. We should not underestimate the power of our Faithful Father. When something is yours, you will definitely get it.

McKing: Now that's beautiful. Faith is from The Faithful One indeed. What can we expect from you this year?

Danny: There is so much I have planned for this year. But I hope to make so much impact in the live of a boy child. One (of the) greatest things you should expect is not something I can share about at the moment but be on the lookout.

McKing: Will definitely do. What is your least favorite thing to wear?

Danny: Jeans😂 I have so many yet I don’t wear them much. They feel heavy and make me grumpy. When I get grumpy and I am wearing a jean, please don’t mind me. You now know why.

McKing: (chuckles) Oh my!!

Pick one:

Your phone or watch?

Danny: My iPhone of course😂

Tea or coffee?

Danny: Used to love tea, but i now love coffee more - so coffee.

Social Media or Live Events?

Danny: Social Media or Live Events - look, I love seeing and meeting new people…live events for me.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Danny: Chocolate or Vanilla - I love both, but I’ll have Chocolate.

Suits or Sweatpants (comfort wear)

Danny: Suits or Comfy wear - suits please, I like looking all formal and representable.

Your best friend or your partner?

Danny: Best Friend/partner - my partner, I will catch up with my best friend later..😂
