THEME: THE HELPER AND THE HELPLESS!
TEXT: [NKJV] JOHN 5:6-8
When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, "Do you want to be made well?" [7] The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me." [8] Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk."
Help usually exists where there is a close contact or cordial relationship between the helper and the helpless. Before help can be released from the helper to the helpless, there must have been a relationship or a close contact between them. God is an helper to every man that is helpless and for His help to be released, every man that wants to receive help from Him must initiate a cordial relationship with Him. God is ever ready to help anyone who is helpless but He won't force Himself on the helpless if the helpless isn't ready to initiate a relationship with Him. One of the codes to activate a cordial relationship is communication. To receive help from God, you have to communicate with Him and to communicate with Him, you must be ready to initiate a relationship with Him.
According to the focal scripture for today's devotional message, the Bible elucidates how the man spent thirty-eight years by the poolside because he never had a close contact or cordial relationship with God. The man tried getting help from those around him but no one gave him attention until a day came like this and a relationship was initiated between him and Jesus Christ. Through the first contact that the man had with Jesus, the help he had been struggling to receive was released to him with ease. Just one contact with Jesus, all the chains of infirmity and impotency that held him bound for thirty-eight years were broken. Just one contact with Jesus, all the failures he had experienced for thirty-eight years ended. The man didn't know that the help he needed was hidden in the relationship he was yet to initiate with God.
Just imagine the amazing things that would have happened in his life if he had had a relationship with God. The man wouldn't have spent thirty-eight years by the poolside if he had a relationship with God. For thirty-eight years, Jesus was missing in his life and he had to manage crisis all through the years. When the man's connection with God was restored, the help he had been struggling to get for thirty-eight years located him instantly and there was a separation between him and all the crisis he had been managing. When there is a connection between you and God, there must be a disconnection or separation between you and the crisis that you have been living your life to manage. When the help of God is released to you, you won't have to manage the crisis you have been managing again but before that can happen, you have to initiate a relationship with God or get your connection with God restored.
