Family is important. They are people we care about or just can't seem to get along with no matter the blood tie. In the lyrics of Shekinah with a twist: we're not suited for each other but that doesn't mean we can't be civil right? Extend an olive branch or is it eggnog? Custard & Jelly? Truffle? Creme brulee. Whatever it is, as long as it brings peace.

It's that time of the year when family members get together to celebrate the holidays and sometimes the dinner table is full of drama. Unresolved issues and a great deal of tension, all it takes is one little disagreement or a few glasses of wine or someone burning the chicken...then the bells jingle: the verbal fight kicks off...

This is the result of never talking it out but just holding a grudge and having a confrontation that adds fuel to the fire but never leads to peace or a conclusion it's an ongoing feud where some are caught in the middle and have to pick a side. It gets tricky and sticky.. chicken wings anyone?
"Jane ruined Christmas, she shouldn't be invited next year" well that won't help, for people to be better or not make the same mistake again don't shut them out but hear them out and help them do right by everyone and themselves. We're supposed to pass around good food on the table not words that make good TV content but leave everyone in a toxic environment of fights that can be easily ignored.

Be the change you want to see. Extend an olive branch and help others step in good versions of themselves. It's not easy, it never is. A lot of relationships end up on thin ice because of family members who end up not getting along and partners now have to fight each other on who's family is in the wrong. This time of the year is exciting but can also be stressful so as a friend, brother, sister, wife, husband etc be kind and help maintain peace and not extend the feud.

In my family there are hardly any dramatic moments during the festive season. It's all fun and chatter. Make the gatherings enjoyable give each other tasks, empower everyone and create an adventure full of incentives. Draft letters to each member of the family appreciating them, don't underestimate the power of a positive treatment it's better than a spa day.

The classic treasure hunt or hide and seek. Santa gets to hide and everyone looks for him, whoever finds him receives a clue (what their Christmas present will be or what's on the menu) or a treat.

The power of imagination is key. Santa doesn't have to be in the actual outfit just has to be in character. Just because someone is dressed as a cop doesn't mean they are. 😉🤭 It could be Halloween, okay I'm being silly but hey let's get with the holiday happiness and feel good instead of carry grudges, maintain them, groom them to perfection and live miserable lives.
